outer-limits It’s been so long since meeting Michel Waisvisz and hearing live his presentation of the Hands in NYC in the late 70’s, uptown on B’way, if memory serves me well. I photographed the performance with great results however through the years all has been lost.

I still adore and have collected recordings featuring Michel such as Steve Lacy’s Saxophone Special & Lumps. His solo outings on both lp & cd respectively, Crackle & In Tune.

I’m sure Michel will be back one day to delight us once again! Favorite track: Deep Sleep Revelation.

about

Christine Abdelnour and Michel Waiswisz met in Sweden in September 2006, when they performed a trio with percussionist Sven-Åke Johansson. The results of this meeting can be heard on the "Beirut-Ystad" compilaiton (Olof Bright CD16/17). They kept on working together whenever possible. The highlight of their collaboration would consist of several days of recording at the famous GRM studios in Paris, during two different periods of the year 2007.
Selecting the music that you will hear on this CD has surely been the hardest part of the entire process. There was so much interesting and different material available, that narrowing it down to an hour seemed like an impossible task. There have been as much as 6 different versions of the recording, many of them with no single track in common, and all of them deemed perfect in the moment.

"Shortwave" was Michel Waiswisz's first studio release since the late seventies, and his last recording before his untimely death in 2008. We would like to thank him for his support to our label Al Maslakh, and the enthusiasm he put in the release of this duo recording with Christine Abdelnour. He will be sorely missed, but his legacy lives on.
